Сарнахпюрское водохранилище · Սառնաղբյուրի ջրամբար

Sarnaghbyur Reservoir is an artificial lake in Shirak region, built in 1972 to irrigate more than 2,000 hectares of farmland. It sits on the upper course of the Chlkan river, about 2 km west of Sarnaghbyur village, at roughly 2,000 m elevation. The lake runs 3.5 km long and up to 160 m wide, covering 0.56 km² with a maximum depth of 25 m. Total capacity is 4.85 million m³, of which 4.55 million m³ is usable.

The dam is earthen with a sand-and-clay core, 190 m long and up to 29 m high. Water is released through a tower-type outlet structure, and a cement anti-seepage curtain runs along the dam's left wing. Feeding is mixed, and the reservoir freezes over in winter.

The reservoir lies in Shirak region, about 2 km west of Sarnaghbyur village, roughly 66 km northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.

Expect ice cover in winter.
