SISIAN HISTORY MUSEUM NAMED AFTER N. ADONTS
Сисианский музей истории им. Н. Адонца · Ն. Ադոնցի անվան Սիսիանի պատմության թանգարան
The Sisian History Museum holds archaeology, ethnography, documents, photographs and coins from a single area: the Sisian region of Syunik. It's named for Nikoghayos Adonts, a historian and Byzantinist born in the nearby village of Brnakot — the collection stays close to his home ground.
The museum opened in 1989 as a branch of the Armenia History Museum, then became independent in 1993. Its first exhibition drawn entirely from its own holdings went up in 1997.
The museum occupies a building constructed in 1937 and rebuilt in 1988. It operates under Armenia's Ministry of Culture.
The museum is in the town of Sisian, in Syunik region, about 148 km east-southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
