Surb Astvatsatsin
церковь Нерсеса Камсаракана · Ներսես Կամսարականի եկեղեցի
Surb Astvatsatsin is a small 7th-century church standing at the northern edge of Talin, close to the town's Katoghike church. An inscription on its west wall names it Surb Astvatsatsin, and credits its construction to Nerseh Patrik Kamsarakan — which is why locals often call it the Kamsarakan church instead.
It belongs to a subtype of small cross-domed churches where the cross arms look rectangular from outside but curve into semicircles inside. There are two entrances, one on the west side and one on the south. The north arm has a small apse built into its west wall, visible from the exterior. The dome rests on squinches, the corner arches that bridge a square base to a round drum.
The church is built of dressed reddish tufa (volcanic building stone). Decoration is restrained, but the double-row dentil cornice running along the exterior stands out against the plain walls.
The church sits in Aragatsotn region, at the northern edge of Talin, roughly 59 km west-northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.
