The Armenian National Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre
Армянский академический театр оперы и балета имени А. А. Спендиаряна · Ալեքսանդր Սպենդիարյանի անվան օպերայի և բալետի ազգային ակադեմիական թատրոն
The Armenian National Academic Opera & Ballet Theatre is Yerevan's main venue for opera and ballet. Locals just call it "Opera."
It opened on 20 January 1933 with a performance of Almast, an opera by Alexander Spendiaryan. The theatre was later named for him. The building itself was designed by architect Alexander Tamanian.
Two separate halls sit inside. The Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall seats about 1,300; the Alexander Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Hall holds roughly 1,070. Both capacities reflect renovations carried out since the theatre opened.

The theatre stands in Yerevan's Kentron district, the city center, between Mashtots and Sayat-Nova avenues, a short walk from Freedom Square.
