Ughtasar

Ухтасар · Ուղտասար

Ughtasar is a mountain in Syunik region, reaching 3,528 meters, in the central part of the Syunik plateau. About 30 kilometers from Sisian, on its slopes between 3,000 and 3,300 meters, researchers found a site covered in petroglyphs (rock carvings) in 1968.

The carvings are the reason the mountain draws visitors rather than the summit itself. Beyond the discovery date and elevation range, little else about the site is documented here.

Ughtasar sits in Syunik region, roughly 30 kilometers from the town of Sisian. Straight-line, it's about 142 kilometers east-southeast of Yerevan.

At over 3,000 meters, the petroglyph site sits well above the tree line, so snow cover through much of the year should factor into any visit.
