Vorotnaberd

Воротнаберд · Որոտնաբերդ

Vorotnaberd is a fortress in Syunik province, built on a ridge that overlooks the Vorotan gorge. The villages of Vaghatin and Vorotan sit on either side of it, and the fortress itself stands at 1,365 meters above sea level.

Its role was to watch this stretch of the gorge — a defensive post rather than a settlement, holding the high ground between the two villages.

Vorotnaberd is in Syunik province near the town of Sisian, about 159 km east-southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
