Zangezur Mountains

The Zangezur Mountains run roughly north-south for some 130 km, marking the frontier between Armenia's Syunik and Vayots Dzor provinces and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Past the Iranian border, the same range continues under a different name: the Qaradağ (Karadag) mountains.
The Zangezur region holds the second-largest stretch of forest in Armenia. Within Syunik province, these forests cover more than 20% of the territory, climbing to elevations of 2,200-2,400 meters.
The range lies in Syunik marz, roughly southeast of Yerevan — about 171 km away in a straight line.
