Erebuni Museum-Reservation grew up around Erebouni, a fortress the Urartian kingdom (ancient state of the Armenian highlands) built in 782 BCE on Arin Berd hill. The museum itself opened October 19, 1968, timed to mark Yerevan's 2,750th anniversary.

Archaeologists excavated the fortress, then reinforced and restored parts of it before turning the hilltop ruins into an open-air museum. The museum building stands at the foot of the hill. Two branches extend its reach, at Karmir Blur and Shengavit. Doors open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 to 16:30.

The museum sits within Yerevan itself, at Arin Berd hill in the Erebuni district — by straight-line distance that works out to ~4 km south-southeast of Yerevan.
