Kirants Monastery, Tavush, Armenia

Kirants Monastery

Киранц · Կիրանց վանք

Kirants Monastery is a 13th-century Armenian church complex in Tavush province — and today it sits at the center of a live ownership dispute. The Georgian Orthodox Church has claimed the site as its own; the Armenian Apostolic Church, which holds it, rejects that claim outright.

The monastery stands on flat ground along the left bank of the Kirants-jur (Kirants water) stream, roughly 10 to 12 kilometers southwest of Kirants village — English and Armenian sources differ slightly on the exact distance.

Kirants Monastery is in Tavush province, roughly 101 km north-northeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
