Proshaberd

Prince Prosh Khaghbakian raised this fortress in the 13th century, choosing a mountain whose steep, hard-to-climb slopes did much of the defensive work for him. The site reads as much as a stronghold as a residence.

Spitakavor Monastery, built a century later, sits about a kilometer to the west. Nothing ties the two sites together on record beyond proximity.

Little else about Proshaberd has been written down.

Proshaberd stands in Vayots Dzor province, about 7 km northeast of the town of Vernashen, roughly 83 km east-southeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
