Tirinkatar
Тиринкатар · Տիրինկատար
Tirinkatar is an archaeological site at 2,859 meters in Aragatsotn region, where dragon-stones (vishapakar, carved ritual monoliths) and megalithic structures point researchers toward early Bronze Age ritual use of the ground. It sits in summer pasture land near the headwaters of the Amberd river, 12 km north of Avan village.
The remains are laid out in several distinct layers rather than as a single structure. Taken together, the vishapakar and megaliths are treated as evidence of a cult culture that was active on the Armenian plateau in the early Bronze Age — there's no sign here of ordinary settlement, only of ritual building.
Tirinkatar lies in Aragatsotn region, near Byurakan, roughly 40 km northwest of Yerevan in a straight line, at 2,859 meters elevation.
At 2,859 meters in open pasture, the site is realistically reachable only in the warmer months; snow cover elsewhere at this altitude makes winter access impractical.
