Updated August 2026 · Chosen editorially. Rankings are never sold.
Armenia's fortresses span three millennia, from Ushiberd's Iron Age walls above Ushi village to Lori fortress, raised in 1065 by David Anhoghin above the Dzoraget and Urut gorges near Stepanavan. Amberd, on Mount Aragats above Byurakan, ran the medieval Aragatsotn district as a 10th-century military center. Erivan Fortress guarded Yerevan's Hrazdan gorge from the 7th century onward, until its demolition in the 1930s left only traces behind.
